Head of Government and Community Relations

Salary up to £60,000 p.a.

The University of Oxford?s Public Affairs Directorate is looking to appoint a Head of Government Community Relations on a full-time permanent basis. The postholder will be responsible for developing and implementing an integrated programme of outreach and engagement with opinion-formers and stakeholders at a local, national and international level in order to build understanding and support for the University?s strategic objectives.

Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs and working closely with senior University Officers, the postholder will promote strong and effective links between the University and a wide range of decision-makers and opinion-formers, including government ministers and officials, parliamentarians, and regional, local and community representatives in education, business, culture and the arts. S/he will develop and manage a range of activity, including community outreach events; newsletters and briefing events for parliamentarians; and high-profile public lecture series, such as the Oxford London Lecture and the Romanes Lecture.

The successful candidate will have senior experience at a decision-making level in public affairs as well as extensive professional experience of the parliamentary and political system at national and local level. With a strong command of governance issues in the charitable and voluntary sector, s/he will have proven expertise in drafting complex policy briefs and communicating complex issues succinctly and accurately.
