Summary:
The purpose of this role is to oversee the planning, delivery and review of professional development in learning and teaching.
Responsibilities include:
- management of the LeTS Professional Development in Learning Teaching team (2 .5 FTE);
- leadership for Initial Professional Development (IPD) programmes including curriculum design, teaching, assessment, liaison with external examiners and activities required for accreditation/reaccreditation;
- developing and implementing a coherent programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities, taking account of disciplinary differences and context;
- identifying and sharing emerging developments in the Higher Education (HE) sector, in order to inform local practice and to ensure that professional development opportunities are in line with sector wide approaches and standards.
Experience of designing and delivering professional development for learning and teaching in a Higher Education setting is essential. In addition, this role requires demonstrable commitment to fostering innovative practice in curriculum design; experience of managing a team, motivating individual staff and ensuring that all are working to shared goals; excellent communication skills, with the ability to persuade colleagues of the value of staff development for learning; and an appreciation of the relationship between learning, teaching and research in a research intensive university, and how this impacts on staff development needs.
The post holder will report to the Head of LeTS. The purpose of LeTS is to work collaboratively with staff and students to ensure that learning and teaching is of a high quality, thereby inspiring and enabling our students to achieve their full academic potential. Its remit encompasses learning and teaching development and innovation, quality assurance, student engagement with learning and teaching, professional development and the monitoring and evaluation of the University's widening participation activities.
