The University of Waterloo invites nominations and applications for the position of Director, School of Architecture, with the appointment to be effective July 2013. 

Established in 1967, the School of Architecture pursues architecture as a form of creative cultural enquiry and is a leader in design education and research. It offers a CACB accredited professional programme consisting of a four year Honours Bachelor of Architectural Studies, which includes twenty months of cooperative work term experience, followed by a Master of Architecture. The School's 19 full-time and 25 part-time faculty members and 15 support staff, work with 430 top students from Canada and around the world in a spirit of fellowship, generosity and collaboration. Since 1979 the School has operated a studio in Rome, with virtually every fourth-year student participating in this award-winning programme. Housed in a renovated silk mill in downtown Cambridge, Ontario the School contains wonderful spaces for studios, classrooms, labs, workshops and offices, as well as a professional art gallery, architectural library, film theatre, media centre, print making studio, fitness facility and cafe. The School is well integrated in the life and fabric of the local community, maintains close connections with professional organizations and architectural and design offices around the world, and is highly respected throughout the architectural profession. The Director, School of Architecture will lead the School's strategy and development and will act as a champion for its continued evolution within the University. He/she will engage with a range of stakeholders including students, faculty and staff, alumni, employers and professional bodies to increase the School's resources, external profile and recognition. Accountable for operations, budgeting, resource allocation, performance management and fundraising, the Director will utilize his/her leadership skills, vision and aspiration to develop an already outstanding School into the top choice of both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Director, School of Architecture will be an accomplished leader, teacher and researcher with demonstrated experience in university administration and connections with the architectural profession. The successful candidate will possess an open and collegial style, outstanding management, communication and interpersonal skills, a creative approach to problem solving, and the ability to inspire a dedicated faculty and staff. Architectural professionals without extensive academic experience who possess a proven record of leadership and a commitment to promoting excellence in research and teaching within the field of architecture will be considered.
