The Oxford Learning Institute provides a broad range of voluntary courses for university and college staff to help them in their work and in the development of their careers. In educational development, these courses cover all aspects of teaching, including course design, examining, and graduate supervision; and there are related courses for the induction of new academic staff and on the selection of new undergraduates.

Working closely with divisional academic training advisers and training officers, you will provide leadership and guidance in educational development for researchers and academics in the Medical Sciences and in Mathematics, Physical and Life Sciences, and you will contribute directly to course delivery and examination.  In particular, you will:

• design, lead or facilitate, and evaluate the effectiveness of programmes of study on learning, teaching and academic practice;
• provide advice on other approaches to educational development;
• ensure that specified courses are fit for external accreditation;
• provide guidance to participants preparing to submit material for assessment;
• act as examiner in educational development courses;
• organise the induction programme for all new university academic staff;
• be responsible for the online course in Undergraduate Admissions.

You will have a first degree and a research doctorate; expertise in academic or educational development; academic experience in a research-intensive university; the ability to take a research-informed approach to designing and running seminars; excellent written and face-to-face communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.  Experience of teaching in the sciences at university level is desirable.
