Real-Time Systems Developer, KTP Associate

£24,370 - £27,578 per annum plus up to £3,800 training budget

Recent graduate / Masters in Computer Engineering / Science needed to undertake a 21 months collaborative project between Yorkshire Water Services Ltd and the University of Exeter.

This 21 month fixed-term post is the result of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Yorkshire Water Services Ltd and the University of Exeter.

The successful candidate based in YWS and will work closely with  Prof Zoran Kapelan and Prof Dragan Savic to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) that will enable operators in YWS to validate sensor data in real-time and then generate, categorise and prioritise alarms related to pipe bursts. All this, in turn, should enable YWS to react and remedy bursts before they impact the customers.

Applicants will possess minimally a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics, a Masters or a PhD in those disciplines will be desirable. Knowledge and experience in water distribution systems modelling will be advantageous. The applicants will have good IT capabilities and excellent communications skills (both written and oral) with a flair for training and dissemination of new information.

Practical software coding in C#/C++ and some knowledge in the use and application of Microsoft Visual Studio, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases is also desirable.

The selection team will also be looking for evidence for the ability to think outside of the box to find innovative and relevant solutions to problems.

The candidate must be dynamic and inquisitive with the ability to conceptualise the whole system. The ability to work responsibly, with enthusiasm and to communicate and work with staff at all levels is also essential for this post. The suitable candidate will be self motivated, well organised and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
