SOVA: Sova Support Link Volunteer

Sova are now recruiting volunteers from all backgrounds to provide emotional and practical support in the community to adult ex-offenders with long-standing psychological needs in South-East London. We are looking for open-minded and reliable adults who can commit to a minimum of 5 hours a week for 12 months.

Sova is a leading national volunteer mentoring organisation working with those socially and economically disadvantaged in England and Wales. SovaĆ¢€™s mission is to offer personal support and practical advice to help build stability both at work and at home enabling people to make better choices and improve the quality of their lives.

Sova Support Link in partnership with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, working in collaboration with local Probation Police aims to:

  • promote social inclusion
  • minimise the potential harm to the public.
  • enable participants to maintain an improved quality of life with the appropriate levels of support
  • encourage confidence and competence to both volunteers and participants

Sova Support Link supports adult male ex-offenders with longstanding psychological needs reintegrate successfully into the community. However, many find it difficult to do this on their own and would benefit from people within their local area supporting them to become a valued member of the community. Sova Support Link covers the following South-East London boroughs: Bexley, Bromley, Southwark, Greenwich Lewisham.

As a volunteer, you would be providing intensive support to adults within a group setting as well as one to one mentoring on a weekly basis. You will need to be able to commit to a minimum of 12 months voluntary work and have the time to provide intensive support (minimum of 5 hours) each week.

We are looking for adults from any background who have the following qualities:

  • Reliability
  • Open-minded attitude
  • Honesty
  • Good communication skills
  • Respectful of other peopleĆ¢€™s views
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Have an interest and the motivation to help support people with mental health difficulties in the community.

In return, Sova provides you with:
